Fisheries Notice !

Posted by

Due to the devastating environmental catastrophe at Mount Polley mine which resulted in the release of the contents of the tailing pond into Quesnel Lake on August 4, 2014, the community of NSTC is concerned that the water and fish in the Fraser River are contaminated.

At this time there is no way to confirm or deny these concerns. Water tests have been done but it will take approximately 3 days to get the results of tests for contaminants. We hope to be able to provide fishers along the Fraser River with useful information on or before Friday, August 8.

Until we receive these results we cannot provide any assurance that the fish in the Fraser are safe for human consumption NOR can we tell you that they are contaminated.

The fishery has not been closed on the Fraser River however we wish to advise anyone fishing that there is a risk of contamination from the spill at the mine.

Please check back regularly for updates.
